Featured here is an amazing Large Antique Brass and Bronze Corkscrew with Bone Handle by Thomason.

In 1802 Edward Thomason was granted a patent, no 2,617 for a quite ingenious corkscrew. The mechanism incorporated both male and female threads & by simply continually turning the handle clockwise - the worm was inserted into the cork and in no time extracted.

This version of Thomason’s II corkscrew is the 3.5 windows, being the number of cutout windows.

The corkscrew is heavy quality in outer and inner casing with a beautiful turned brass centre, steel worm and the typical Thomason applied coat of arms patent badge to exterior of shaft bearing the words ‘NE PLUS ULTRA’. This means ‘no more beyond’ being the claim by Thomason that his invention surpassed all known and future corkscrew designs.

The corkscrew measures 18cm (7”) when closed. When fully extended it measures 26cm (10.25”) in entirety.

It is in good vintage condition, presented unpolished and with damage evident to bone handle and missing brush. There is a small loss to point of corkscrew tip and some dings and dents to bronze outer casing.
