Antique English Sterling Silver Nurses Buckle 1905 By Mappin & Webb Birmingham
This Antique English Sterling Silver nurse's buckle was made by the firm of Mappin & Webb, their mark on the reverse is stamped as 'Mn & Wb'. The belt buckle is hall marked to both pieces with the lion for sterling silver, the date letter 'f' for 1905 and the anchor for Birmingham assay office (on one piece only). Mappin & Webb were leading Birmingham producers of silver items.
The design is very Arts & Crafts style with a hammered effect surface and applied decoration to each side.
The buckle is in very good condition overall. There is a break in the design on one small area of the link in the loop shape. The belt guide bar to other half of buckle has a kink as does the loop decoration. The two pieces meet at the front and sit in good alignment. All that is needed is a fabric belt to be attached.
The buckle measures 9.3cm across in entirety and weighs 38g.
Perfect for that graduating nurse or a special gift for mid career.
